Just posted up some new articles on rspeed, one written by me, and another written by a friend of mine, Dave Moffitt. Check them out!

No news is good news?
Well, I haven’t updated much on here because I’ve been busy working, and taking care of personal things. With my wife being pregnant, we’ve had to do so much around here to get ready for it, which takes up a lot of my personal time.
I’ve had a lot of work come in lately for Allstar Graphics which is great, but much of it is very time consuming. We have some high volume orders coming in soon that we have to prepare for also. It is fun though. I really do enjoy running Allstar Graphics (West).
I also have been working on a bunch of websites lately for Technotic Media. Some redesigns for previous customers as well as new sites, and a redesign of the Allstar Graphics site.
I’ve finally made some good progress on my truck, a 2003 Ford F350 PowerStroke. The truck has undergone an extreme transformation, and has been in progress since the end of January. Hopefully within the next few weeks, it will be done, and can go to East Coast Audio for some audio work.
This Wednesday, I’ll be going to the drag strip (NYIRP) and running the bike there. It will be the first time this year, also since the gearing change, air filter, exhaust, and tune. I’m hoping to break into the 10’s but I suck at launching!
Be back soon with more updates!
Picked this up locally a week or two ago. It was used, but in perfect condition!
It’s a Czech Arms 550 Kevlar Varmint with a Nikon 3-9×40 Scope and a bipod. The barrel is a 26″ heavy style barrel. Looks like it would be very accurate. I still have yet to shoot it!
It’s chambered for .308 rounds and the shop gave me some with the gun, but like I said, I haven’t had a chance to get to a range and sight it in good.

NY Firearms
Well I’ve pretty much finished up a new site that I’ve been working on, nyfirearms.com. I’ve been on vacation in Ireland, and because of the time change, I’m not able to get to sleep early at all. Instead of wasting the time, I just kept working on trying to get the site ready to launch. After some frustrating work with Wordpress and Simple Machines Forums, I’ve been able to get to the site to a point where I can start inviting people to visit it.
The site is a blog and forum dedicated to the ownership, laws, and politics of firearms in New York State. I, along with some other firearms enthusiasts, will be updating the site with news, reviews, and other content. So please check out the site over at www.nyfirearms.com and let me know what you think!
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to bring my bike up to one of my new sponsors, Moon Performance, in Lake Placid, NY, to be tuned on their dyno. I purchased a Dynojet PCIII from Seth, the owner at Moon Performance, and he installed it for me while we were up there for the rspeed.org spring meet. It was a fairly simple install, but I felt more comfortable having Seth install it, since he was going to be tuning it anyways.
After some very loud runs on the dyno, Seth came up to me with a sheet showing my finished tune. The bike made 110whp and 43 ft-lbs. He saw around a 3 hp gain on his dyno, which seems to read slightly lower than a Dynojet style dyno. I plan to bring it to a local shop with a dyno to see how it increased from my baseline last year at the same shop.
Check out the videos below of the bike on the dyno. It doesn’t do the exhaust too much justice, though
RICEBOYTV.COM
Well, I just recently returned from California, after visiting with the Rice Boy Media guys. Ricky Chu, John Naderi, and Mike Robleto, formerly of Super Street Magazine, have started up RiceBoyTV.com, an online TV and media site.
Considering these guys are some of the top-notch media professionals in the industry, I was not surprised to see their following and how well the site is doing, having only been launched for a short time now. I had an incredible time at their office, and felt very welcome.
Their site is all about the import and motorsports culture, ranging from feature car reviews to model interviews, and even racing coverage. They do a great job of adding humor with factual coverage and they have a wealth of knowledge to share with the world. I can recommend, first-hand, that their knowledge is deep and the site definitely shows this!
On to the good news! I, as Technotic Media, will be providing graphic design services for RiceBoyTV.com, as well as some vinyl graphics jobs, and possibly some video work into the future. I’m hoping to be able to help them out on the east coast, as well as take some of the work load off of them. They welcomed me as part of their team, and I think this is a great start to, hopefully, a great strategic partnership between Rice Boy Media and Technotic Media. Additionally, I will be taking over administration of their forums, hoping to clean it up and focus it on content to complement the main site.
Visit their site at www.riceboytv.com and be sure to check out their forums as well!
This past weekend I was down in Alabama for another track day. This time it was at Barber Motorsports Park, down in Birmingham, Alabama. The track is a 55 million dollar facility, that recently opened in 2003. It is an incredibly beautiful track, and a top-notch facility.
Some facts about Barber Motorsports Park (Taken from their website):
- 2.38 Miles Long
- 45′ Wide
- 16 Turns
- 80′ of Elevation Change
- 4 Levels of Paved Paddock
- Car Track Record: 1:20.613
- Motorcycle Track Record: 1:25.047
I had registered for this at the same time as I registered for Mid-Ohio. Again, I was bringing my 2006 Yamaha R6 to run at the track. My R6 has been modified significantly to support this growing habit of track days as well as some cosmetic enhancements to turn those heads!
The track day again was through Sportbike Track Time, however the format was a little different than my first one. The first day we had regular classroom instruction for novice class and some of the first few sessions we ran slower, following the instructor. After those first few sessions they started letting us pass and pick up the speeds. On the second day, we had no classroom time, and it was pretty much open track for the novice group as well.
This track is every thing they claim it to be and more! I was a little apprehensive about the track at first because it was claimed to be much more technical than Mid-Ohio. At this point, I had only two track days under my belt, so my confidence in track riding was not there 100% yet. After the first few sessions, I had my lines down and I started to pick up the pace. I used the first day, more or less, to learn the track, learn good lines, and build the memory of the track. By the second day, I was knee down through most of the turns and I was able to concentrate on body positioning, weight transfer, and looking ahead.
Personally, I think I was riding the best that I have ever ridden before. I just felt much more stable, more comfortable, and most importantly, smoother. This all dictated to faster lap times, and whilst I didn’t have a lap timer on board, I paced another guy running 1:57’s. I felt pretty accomplished with those numbers and had a great time getting more experience out on the track.
The tires I used were Michelin Pilot Power 2CT’s. They are a dual compound with super soft sides and a slightly harder compound in the center. Overall these tires performed extremely well and I never had a feeling where I thought the tire was going to give out. Granted I’m on a 600 versus being on a liter bike, so traction coming out of turns wasn’t as big of an issue, but these tires sure can stick.
The pictures above were taken after the second day. As you can see, I was pushing these tires pretty hard! It looks like the front got warm enough to pick up rubber coming back into the paddock!. After four track days, they still have a ton of life in them, and I hope to get like 2000 miles of street driving and another 4 track days out of them. I would definitely recommend these tires to anyone who wants to do track days, still rides on the street, and isn’t ready to move up to DOT-R tire.
In addition to putting some wear on my tires, I started riding aggressive enough to put my knee down on most of the turns on the track. To me, I felt that was a great progression in becoming a better rider.
My Acropovic slip-on exhaust was silver at one time also. If you look at my youtube videos you can see a very early video of my bike with just the slip-on exhaust, and it’s pretty much all silver. Being that it is titanium it had started to color here and there, but because we wrapped the header and mid-pipe with heat wrap over this past winter, much more heat was exiting the pipe. I guess that proves that the heat-wrap helped significantly. As you can see in the picture below, the pipe has changed to all kinds of blues and purples. I think it really sets the bike apart and looks great!
Overall, I would definitely recommend trying a track day, even for a slightly more novice rider. It is a great way to hone your riding skills as well as learn some new ones. It will help your concentration and reaction time and make you a better and safer riding on the street. I know there are more track days in my future, so keep checking back for updates on here!
Mid-Ohio Speedway
I completely forgot to write about my track day at Mid-Ohio Speedway!
Considering it was my first motorcycle track day, I was pretty nervous about how I would do. I’ve had experience with cars on the track and at autocross, so I was hoping that experience would help. It certainly did!
After the first couple sessions I got the hang of it and we started to really pick up the pace. Our group was passing some of the higher groups and we really seemed to work well together. From the first day to the second day, they moved our group up, and it was good to hear some great feedback from the instructor.
As for Mid-Ohio, it was an awesome track overall. Great road surface, and a very fast course. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to do a track day.
The group that I did the track day with was Sportbike Track Time and I would definitely recommend them as a track day organization. Great staff, great instruction and it was well put together. {thumbs up}
Check out this video below of me on the track at Mid-Ohio:
Just recently added a video to the Review of the Harris Performance Racing Fuel Cap showing the operation of fuel cap!
Just had a chance to install the Harris Performance Fuel Cap on my 2006 Yamaha R6. I’m very happy with the results. Check out my review and install of the part: Harris Performance Racing Fuel Cap. I’m working on several other reviews and how-to’s for the site, so keep checking back!
